The Helpful hands experience
What's involved?
At assessment you will be asked a lot of questions relating to your current problem, medical history (including medications) and some social aspects of your life. This is to allow us to tailor treatments to your needs and fit them into your specific lifestyle. All information is maintained and used with the utmost confidentiality and in your best interest, as set out in the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) standards.
For effective assessment you may at times be asked to partially undress. This is not a necessity and we strive to abide by your beliefs and needs at all times. You will be asked if you consent before you are asked to remove any item of clothing, and our professional service will help you maintain your dignity whilst always feeling reassuringly comfortable. Please tell us any of your needs and we can work around them. If you prefer a chaperone to attend with you, this is no problem. Appropriate loose-fitting clothing will reduce the need to disrobe. As a rule of thumb, a vest top can allow good access to assess neck and arm problems. Shorts or loose-fitting jogging bottoms will allow effective assessment of the legs and feet. For leg and foot problems it is also a benefit to bring in your regular and exercise shoes.
Following assessment, the findings and further treatments will be discussed and agreed with you before commencing your treatment and rehabilitation. Treatment and review sessions will compare to previous sessions to ensure you are progressing well and treatments are appropriate.
